A Conversation About Schools of Excellence with Judy Warden Fields

SFS’s CEO Todd Whitlock speaks with Judy Warden Fields, CEO of Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence, about the best criteria for determining school excellence. According to Fields, the greatest indicators of high-performing schools when conducting walkthroughs are student engagement and teacher quality. Typically what Blue Ribbon representatives look for are teachers moving around the classroom, not stationary at the front, and students actively engaging with the topic through discussions and other activities.

At the Blue Ribbon Conference, Whitlock points out that no matter what the topic of the session is, questions always surface regarding less punitive measures and transferring the ownership of learning to students or to students in collaboration with teachers. These topics are at the heart of Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence, which is a school improvement process with a recognition component, and they are committed to fostering and recognizing high-quality education across the nation.
