Travis completed his undergraduate studies at The University of Evansville in 1996. He began his teaching career at White River Valley High School in Switz City, Indiana in the fall of 1996. He taught English and coached basketball, tennis and golf until he was promoted to Assistant Principal and Athletic Director at WRV in 1999. He served in that capacity until he left in the summer of 2002 to become the Principal of Barr-Reeve Junior Senior High School in Montgomery, Indiana. It was that same summer that he completed his Master’s Degree in Secondary Administration and Supervision from Indiana State University. Travis remained as Barr-Reeve’s Principal until the summer of 2011. Throughout his tenure as Principal, Barr-Reeve Junior Senior High School was named a Four Star School Seven (7) times. In the summer of 2011, Travis was promoted to the Superintendent’s position at Barr-Reeve Community Schools. Travis completed his Educational Specialist Degree from Indiana State University in the Spring of 2013. Over the past three school years, BRCS has been named an “A” corporation by the IDOE. Barr-Reeve’s Community successfully passed a general fund referendum in the May Primary Election of 2013 with 82% voting in favor. Travis feels his corporation is “still a work in progress”, but moving forward positively with its Staff Appraisal program because of the willingness of his staff to work together with administration to put together an effective plan that focuses on student growth and faculty professional development. He also credits SFS with being a major help with the process as well as they have been able to work with us to adjust their instrument to best fit our needs as a corporation.
